The statewide evaluation helps us understand the outcomes of public education events and tell the story of our work both locally and across California. Participation is expected from all county programs, as this effort strengthens our ability to measure our impact and improve over time.
As a volunteer, your role in collecting participant information is essential to making this happen. This page has everything you need to understand the process, know what to do at events, and feel confident in your part of the evaluation.

Elevator Speech
Not sure how to talk about evaluation with the public? You’re not alone. Here’s a sample elevator speech to help explain why we collect participant information in a clear and approachable way.
"We want to better understand and measure the impact of the UC Master Gardener Program in our communities. While personal stories are powerful, contributing to this evaluation gives us the data we need to show our effectiveness.
The survey tracks behavior changes in gardening and environmental stewardship after people attend our events. This information is shared with stakeholders to strengthen the program, support continued funding, and guide strategic improvements."
