UC ANR Learning and Development

The UC ANR Learning and Development web pages serve as a comprehensive resource for professional development. They offer access to various webinars, workshops, and training materials to support the skill development and career growth of UC ANR employees and collaborators. Academic Assembly Council

The purpose of the UC ANR Academic Assembly Council is to act as a statewide body to advise and assist UC ANR administration in maximizing Cooperative Extension’s usefulness to the University and the people of California; study, develop, and recommend policies and procedures for the benefit and welfare of academic employees of Cooperative Extension of the University of California; and promote communication between and within the Cooperative Extension and UC System. The mission of the Academic Assembly Council is to provide a forum to enhance the impacts of Cooperative Extension programs and address the professional needs of Cooperative Extension academic employees. Depending on your academic title, you will be automatically included in one of the three representative committees (Academic Coordinators Committee, Advisors Committee, or Multiple Title Representative Committee). 

Professional Society Meeting Travel Awards and Funding Opportunities

What are Academic Assembly Council (AAC) Travel Funds? These funds support travel to meetings with professional societies that are recognized organizations holding regularly scheduled meetings primarily for the reporting and exchange of knowledge among members. They publish peer-reviewed journals and/or edit proceedings of meetings to promote professional growth.  Cooperative Extension advisors, academic coordinators, and Cooperative Extension specialists are eligible for one meeting approval per fiscal year and can apply for these funds (July 1 – June 30). 

UC ANR Mentorship Program

All UC ANR academics, particularly early career academics, can benefit from participation in the UC ANR Mentorship Program, a 9-month program for academics and staff that runs from February through November each year and pairs mentees who seek professional development with mentors from across UC ANR. The program provides a supportive structure in which mentees cultivate contacts, better understand UC ANR, explore challenges, and enhance effectiveness as they design their personal growth and career paths. 

UC People Management Networking Cohort

The UC People Management Cohort is comprised of a group of UC ANR people managers who are working on completing the UC Performance Manager Series Certificate and meet virtually for a monthly facilitated meeting to share tools, guidance, and best practices.

National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD)

UC ANR is fortunate to be an institutional member of NCFDD. Founded in 2010, NCFDD is the leading provider of professional development in higher education. They provide professional development and mentoring through a host of resources that are applicable across all fields of inquiry. You don’t need to be a faculty member to benefit from NCFDD resources. Academic Human Resources 

UC ANR Academic Human Resources provides strategic recruitment of academic employees, facilitates advancement, ensures competitive compensation and equal employment opportunity, and supports employee and labor relations.

Environmental Health and Safety 

In partnership with Safety Coordinators at each Cooperative Extension and Research and Extension Center location, UC ANR Environmental Health and Safety strives to ensure all UC ANR researchers, staff, volunteers, and youth participants can perform their activities in a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible manner by developing and making available a suite of planning, procedural, and training resources. 

Business Operation Center 

The UC ANR Business Operations Center (BOC) provides comprehensive business and fiscal services to UC ANR academics and staff. 

Statewide Programs and Research and Extension Center Operations 

The UC ANR Statewide Programs and Research and Extension Center Operations (SWPR) unit manages the budget, financial, personnel, programmatic, and administrative operations for the programmatic side of UC ANR. 

Contracts and Grants 

The UC ANR Office of Contracts and Grants (OGC) provides principal investigators assistance with proposal preparation and with resources and expertise so that they may better understand contract and grant administration and successfully administer sponsored awards. The UC ANR OGC is the authorized organizational representative for all extramurally sponsored projects at UC ANR. OGC can help you find funding opportunities and maintains a helpful Contracts and Updates Blog.

Program Planning and Evaluation

The UC ANR Program Planning and Evaluation (PPE) unit provides training, resources, and support for programmatic evaluation and impact assessment, which are crucial in cooperative extension to show that our programs are achieving their intended goals. Additionally, regular evaluation provides feedback on what is working and what is not for making decisions to refine and improve programs and services. 

Resource Planning and Management

The UC ANR Resource Planning and Management (RPM) unit is responsible for administration, analysis, and reporting for the UC ANR budget. As a key resource adviser to leadership, Resource Planning & Management is responsible for three functional areas: Budget Operations; Reporting & Analysis; and Capital Planning. UC ANR receives and generates over $300 million per year in budgeted funds. These funding sources include state general, federal formula, endowment, capital, indirect, and other cost recovery funds

Policies, Compliance, and Programmatic Agreements

The UC ANR Policies, Compliance, and Programmatic Agreements (PCPA) unit within UC ANR’s Controller’s Office helps with policy, compliance, and programmatic agreements. They handle UC and UC ANR policy interpretation and development, delegations of authority, CANRA requirements, whistleblower reports, information practice issues (records requests, records management, and subpoena/privacy), and act as a liaison to the UC Office of General Counsel. They also manage programmatic agreements like MOUs, real property, country support, researcher access, and internship program agreements. 

Program Support Unit

The UC ANR Program Support Unit (PSU) provides programmatic support in key areas to those involved in UC ANR initiatives, programmatic and advocacy efforts, statewide programs, and leadership groups. Support includes coordinating all aspects of event planning, scheduling the Davis ANR Building Valley Conference Rooms, providing meeting support, note taking, and more.  

Strategic Communications

UC ANR Strategic Communications promotes the great work of UC ANR to Californians and various external audiences. They conduct outreach to news media, pitch stories to influential journalists, develop promotional material, keep active social media platforms, develop web content, and maintain responsibility for the UC ANR Brand. UC ANR Strategic Communications also provides a helpful Communications Toolkit.

Strategic Communication also supports News and Information in Spanish (NOS,) which assist researchers, CE advisors, CE specialists, and programmatic staff reach Spanish-speaking audiences using a variety of dissemination tools, such as radio, print media, translations/adaptations, videos and blogs. For more information see.
