UCCE Specialty Crops and Horticulture Advisors serve the region's commercial produce, fruit, flower, and nursery growers by providing information and support with crop production, pest management, and market development. 

Specialty crops are defined as "fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, and horticulture & nursery crops, including floriculture", and excluding cannabis).

Emeritus Advisor Deborah Giraud served the ornamental, vegetable, and fruit producers of Humboldt and Del Norte counties, providing information on cultural practices, crop production, and pest control. She also worked on local agricultural land use issues and Community Development. A sample of previous projects include:

  • Biological control of aphids, lily bulb storage conditions, and nematode control for cut flowers;
  • Landscape plant water use; and
  • Farm succession planning that includes providing workshops and technical services for landowners to plan and implement strategies for the next generation of farmers.
