Returning Leaders

4-H has grown in California because of the dedication of our volunteers. Some of our volunteers have supported 4-H for 10, 20 and 30 years or more!

Re-apply annually

All 4-H volunteers must be appointed annually. If you are a current 4-H Adult Volunteer, to continue in the next year you need to re-apply and be re-appointed by November 30 to continue with no break in service. If you are not fully approved by that date, you will no longer be allowed to participate. So it's important to complete the process quickly and as soon as the new program year begins on July 1 each year.

Re-application process

  1. If you are a current volunteer, you need to enroll for the new program year at https://4h.zsuite.org/. Please make sure the email address in the system is correct and one you check regularly.

  2. Once you have submitted your enrollment, you will be sent an email directing you to complete the 2025-2026 California Returning Volunteer Course hosted at https://campus.extension.org. In order to self-enroll in the course, you will need to enter the enrollment key of "Kern".

  3. Pay the annual enrollment fee to your club, or by credit card online. The County Director reviews and approves 4-H volunteer appointments after all the application requirements and mandatory trainings are completed.

If you have a break in service

If you have a break in service as a 4-H Adult Volunteer, please follow the process for New Volunteers. In other words, if were not approved and active last year, you will need to reapply as a brand-new candidate.
