The Oregon Garden

In early October we were able to visit The Oregon Garden in Silverton. This 80-acre botanical garden is made up of over 20 specialty gardens. Normally there is a tram available to transport you to different areas, but because of COVID, it was not running.

Once in a Lifetime Bloom

Is it a telephone pole? Is it giant asparagus? Just what is it? A few months ago these two agave plants started sending out these giant spears. They resembled asparagus spears. Agave is related to asparagus but a distant relative.

Host Tree

While out walking, I glanced up into a palm tree (probably while looking for barn owls) and was surprised to find that both a fig and an oak had taken root in the upper portion of the palm. It made me laugh because both plants can be vigorous and tenacious in their distribution.

Soak That Tree!

NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting a 70% chance of a La Nia weather pattern for the upcoming 2021-2022 winter. Rain comes from clouds that form over warm ocean water, and La Nia will be blowing that warm water that we want to the Western Pacific.
