About the Event
Maintaining a Garden with Native California Plants
Description: At this class you will learn how to maintain a new California native garden during its first year. Topics include a review of basic garden terms and concepts, how to assess a garden's health, how to get organized, how to successfully prune young plants, and a review of seasonal chores in the garden. The presentation will be followed by a hands-on demonstration and practice at the native garden at Burlingame City Hall.
UC Master Gardener Presenter Melissa Mason: A Master Gardener since 2015, Melissa specializes in California native plants. In 2019 she initiated and led the San Carlos Native Plant Habitat Garden Project, where Master Gardeners planted more than 80 species of native plants in an 8000 sq ft park area in San Carlos. Currently, Melissa and her team are researching and developing “Plant Notes,” which are individual educational materials that feature information on how to grow and maintain a single plant or plant family.
