Come see us at the San Mateo County Fair!  Find out how to turn food scraps into valuable nutrient-rich compost (vermicompost) to enhance your indoor and outdoor plants.  Learn the basics of how to set up and maintain a worm compost bin as well as how to harvest and use the compost in your garden.

UC Master Gardener Presenter Jeff Harter:  Jeff removed the lawn from his front yard in 2012 and has been gardening ever since. Years of hit-or-miss efforts convinced him that learning the basics of gardening systematically, from fellow gardening enthusiasts and experts, was the way to achieve better results. Since completing the UC Master Gardener training in 2024, Jeff has continued to acquire knowledge and experience while sharing what he has learned with the gardening community of San Mateo and San Francisco counties.

UC Master Gardener Presenter Howard Hibbs: Howard has been gardening in his suburban home for over 30 years. He is an avid composter and vermicomposter with the continuing goal of turning all yard trimmings, leaves and kitchen refuse into either mulch, compost or worm castings for the garden. As a certified UC Master Gardener of San Mateo and San Francisco Counties (2022), he has realized improving the soil is one of the most important things we can do as gardeners.
