BLM Funding Opportunities – Fuels, Forests, Wildlife & Aquatics
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released several competitive funding opportunities for FY25. Below are a few highlighted programs of interest each with a submission deadline of July 23, 2025. 1. Fuels Management & Community Fire Assistance
Opportunity Number: L25AS00301
This program aims at reducing wildfire risk through hazardous fuels reduction, fire preparedness, and planning across federal and adjacent non-federal lands in California.
Strategic Goals for California:
- Accomplish fuels management activities on federal and non-federal land
- Develop and implement fire education, training, and/or community action programs
- Conduct Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs), wildfire assessments, and planning activities
Program funding: ~$5 million total pool for California
Award ceiling: $1,000,000
2. Forest & Woodlands Resource Management
Opportunity Number: L25AS00297
This program funds projects that support forest and woodland health, fire resiliency, sustainable forest management, and habitat restoration on public lands. Eligible activities include thinning, fuels reduction, tree planting, biomass utilization, vegetation control, and recovery from fire, insect, or disease damage.
Program Strategic Goals:
- Restore forest health and resilience to wildfire, pests, disease, and drought through science-based practices
- Support sustainable timber harvests and biomass use for renewable energy
- Salvage dead/dying trees to reduce fuels and protect habitat, watersheds, and soils
- Expand public access to forest products
- Streamline NEPA processes to accelerate forest restoration efforts
Program funding: ~$8 million
Award ceiling: $1.5 million
3. Wildlife Resource Management
Opportunity Number: L25AS00308
This program aims to support the management of wildlife resources on the public lands for the social and economic well-being of all Americans. Program priorities include:
- protection, maintenance, and development of wildlife habitat;
- wildlife reintroduction and propagation;
- field study programs involving wildlife;
- law enforcement; educational programs;
- toxicity/mortality investigations and monitoring;
- animal damage management.
Program funding: ~$10 million
Award ceiling: $1.5 million
4. Aquatic Resource Management
Opportunity Number: L25AS00306
This program supports projects that enhance aquatic habitats, riparian and wetland areas, and water resource management on California’s public lands, ensuring water quality and availability, improving fish and wildlife habitats, and controlling invasive species.
California-specific priorities include:
- Inventorying, assessing, and monitoring water resources, riparian and wetland areas, and aquatic habitats.
- Controlling and eradicating riparian and aquatic invasive species.
- Restoring riparian and wetland areas and aquatic habitats.
Program funding: ~$3 million
Award ceiling: $500K
