2025 5th Report

General Situation Despite relatively high thrips counts in some areas, TSWV incidence remains low generally with a few heavily infected crops.  Any younger crops will remain susceptible to economic damage until fruit set.  Temperatures over the next 10 days will start out with a run of 4 or 5 days around 100F before cooling off to the mid 90sF.  That run of high temperatures might slightly delay and reduce the development of the next generation of thrips.

Thrips We are in the middle of generation 4 maturing on plants.  Nymphs feeding on infected plants at the moment will turn into infected 5th generation adults and could spread any TSWV more widely.  Generation 5 adults will emerge in the next few days. Generation 6 will mature during the first half of July. After that most crops will be beyond risk. Consider continuing treatments until all crops have set fruit and are passed the early growth period where damage can be heavy.  If you want to see thrips degree day projections for your own crops, our new user interface lets you drop a pin on a map and generate a projection for that location specifically.  You can find the new interface to the degree model here: https://qbelabgroup.shinyapps.io/WFT_dd/
