Join Kirsten Stember, naturalist and educator for the Santa Lucia Conservancy, to uncover the unique adaptations and native larval plants of 10 common native butterflies in Monterey County.

For over 25 years, Kirsten has led interpretive walks at the Santa Lucia Preserve, situated within one of the world’s great ‘biodiversity hotspots,’ globally recognized as a place of exceptional ecological value. At the intersection of coastal and inland climate gradients, The Preserve is a mosaic of habitats, with over 90% of the 20,000-acre Preserve permanently protected and serving as a critical refuge and migration corridor for a vast array of wildlife.

Kirsten will discuss the Winged Restoration project and the plethora of butterfly species that – when they land for a moment – anyone with a keen eye and a naturalist’s patience can learn to distinguish.
