The UC Master Food Preserver Program is considered a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization under the University of California (UCOP) tax exempt status. Proof or verification is often required by donors, the W-9 form and tax exempt letter can be used as supporting documentation. More information can be found on the website links under additional resources.
W-9 Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification
Form W-9 ("Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification") is used in the income tax system by a third party who must file an information return with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). It requests the name, address, and taxpayer identification information of a taxpayer in the form of a Employer Identification Number or EIN. The form is never actually sent to the IRS, but is maintained by the individual who files the information return for verification purposes.
UCOP Tax Exemption Letter
A donor or program supporter may want verification that our organization is a qualified tax-exempt entity. The most common way to show tax status is to give the donor a copy of UCOP's IRS determination letter, which UCOP received when it became a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity in 1939.
