New Adult Volunteer Members

Thank you for your interest in becoming a 4-H adult volunteer. As a volunteer, you will play an important role in the development of young people, helping them to identify their spark and develop the skills and positive outcomes that lead to thriving. Below are the steps to becoming a volunteer. We look forward to working with you as a valuable asset to the 4-H Youth Development Program.

Become a 4-H Adult Volunteer!

Step 1: Submit a Volunteer Interest Survey

Each new 4-H Adult Volunteer needs to submit a brief interest survey. Tell us how you would like to participate in the 4-H program as a volunteer.

Step 2: Submit Online Enrollment  in ZSuite

The next step to enrolling as a 4-H adult volunteer is to submit an online application using ZSuite

  • You will be asked to choose a Primary Unit. This is the club that you have chosen to be your 4-H home base. Select one for now, you can always change it later.

  • Adult Volunteers do not need to add a project. If you are going to be a project leader, your project will be added to ZSuite once your membership is made active and your Annual Project Plan has been submitted to the 4-H Office. Projects can be added at any time.

  • Once you click submit you will receive an email confirmation that your application has been received and is waiting for approval.

Step 3: Pay $30 Annual Program Fee

The third step to becoming an adult volunteer is to pay the annual membership fee. 

  • Online: Card payments can only be accepted online with a non-refundable transaction fee of 4%. The total cost is $31.25. ($30 enrollment fee + $1.25 transaction fee)

  • Mail: Make checks payable to "UC Regents" and send to: UCCE Central Sierra 4-H YDP, 311 Fair Lane, Placerville, CA 95667

  • In-Person: Cash and check payments can be accepted at your county 4-H office.

Step 4: Complete Online Training

New adult volunteers must complete a New Volunteer Training course. This course is designed to teach new volunteers about the 4-H program and  cover materials mandated by the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act. 

  • 4-H Volunteer Orientation Course (40 minutes)

  • CANRA for Volunteers (30 minutes)

  • 4-H Thriving Model of PYD (15 minutes)

  • 2-Deep Supervision Policy (5 minutes)

  • 4-H Vision & Impact (5 minutes)

Step 5: Live Scan Background Check

4-H Adult Volunteer must complete a Live Scan background check for DOJ and FBI Clearance. Email your county 4-H office to request a pre-filled Live Scan Form and instructions. Once you have completed your Live Scan, RECORD YOUR ATI# HERE for processing.

Step 6: Attend a Virtual New Adult Volunteer Orientation (NAVO)

Every new 4-H Adult Volunteer must attend a virtual New Adult Volunteer Orientation (NAVO). The orientation is presented by county and state 4-H staff and takes a deeper dive into the foundations of 4-H and how you will be supported as a volunteer with the University of California.

Step 7: Submit a Project Plan (Project Leaders Only)

If you are a 4-H Project Leader, your last step is to submit a project plan for each project that you will be leading. Once your project plan has been received, your project will be added to ZSuite for members to join. Email completed plans to your county 4-H office.

Enrollment Completion

After your county 4-H office reviews the enrollment, you will receive an email sent to your Family email account to confirm your enrollment status as Active. Once your enrollment is active, you may begin 4-H activities!  You may access your 4-H profile at any time of the year to change what projects you are involved in, update your health information, etc. Note: The lead project leader must complete enrollment before their project will be made available to members.
