More Summer Harvest

The summer fruit harvesting continues. We've had some hot days. I'm still waiting for the passion fruit to ripen. The grapes in the side yard are starting to ripen. But not quite as sweet as they could be. I know, because I've been eating them off the vine. The blackberries are ripening also. I would like to think I got smarter in recent years with harvesting the blackberries. I use my long-handled rosepruner to cut a long branch and carry it, ripe and unripe fruit, onto  a surface, like a table. This way I can pick-off the ripe berries without scratching myself too much on the thorns.

I'm also starting to harvest tomatoes in the front yard, one tomato at a time. I gave the ripe  one to my friend down the street as she ran out of tomatoes for cooking dinner. I'm waiting for the next ripe one for myself. Speaking of friends, I went to see my friend Ann, who has grafted fruit trees all over her yard. She has plums, apricots, figs, Surinam cherry (Eugenia uniflora), mulberries (Morus nigra), and many more. I wish I had taken pictures of her orchard, but my hands were too busy feeding myself the delicious offering.
