My Latest Bulb Acquisition

There is a lot to love about bulbs, especially ones that can naturalize in our clay soil. One  I have had success with are Narcissus, especially the tazetta hybrid ‘Paper White.'  When the bulb is able to naturalize it starts producing more and more bulbs. At some point you need to dig up the bulbs, replant the largest, and then share your bounty with like minded gardeners. Late last winter I was the recipient of just such a bounty. A friend had dug and divided her Scilla peruviana.

I got them in the ground and this was my reward.

I received enough bulbs that I was able to plant some in a pot, some in a raised bed and some in the ground. All of them made it with flying colors through the first season. It will be fun to see how long I need to wait till I will have some to dig, replant and then share.
