Eight academics joined the ranks of UC Cooperative Extension advisors, specialists and an academic coordinator over the last few months. The new academics are: Kamyar Aram UCCE specialty crops advisor Contra Costa County Kamyar Aram joined UC ANR in August 2019 as UCCE advisor in specialty crops.

Sorghum is not only a potential drought-tolerant crop for the San Joaquin Valley, it also presents the opportunity for scientists to understand the mechanism behind drought tolerance at the genetic level, said UCCE sorghum specialist Jeff Dahlberg in a segment on ABC 30 Action News.

On September 4th, we hosted the Soil Health and Cover Cropping Field Meeting on Staten Island in San Joaquin County. We would like to thank those who attended the meeting. The meeting handouts are now available from the Delta Crops website.

Arundo or giant reed (Arundo donax) is invasive in riparian areas in much of central and southern California, as well as other parts of the U.S. In the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, arundo grows on islands and along the edges of sloughs and canals.

September 13, 2019 About forty people took part in the public educational event that was held at the farm of Gary, Mari, and Daniel Martin just north of Mendota, CA on the 13th of September to tackle the very timely and important topics of soil health and climate-smart farming techniques.
