Susan Lafferty and I attended this workshop for school and community gardens. This was a great hands on workshop to learn how to assess or plan a garden site. We learned about soil types, how to plot out your garden to harvest vegetables at a certain time and square foot gardening techniques.

General situation It has been an up and down start to the year for thrips development. Through February the relatively dry winter, and somewhat warm start to the year in the San Joaquin Valley meant we were running ahead of the 30 year average for degree day accumulation.

Ella Mae Noffsinger, 84, who retired in 1991 as the senior museum scientist in charge of the UC Davis Nematode Collection, passed away March 22, 2018 in Woodland. She was a longtime resident of Palm Gardens Assisted Living, Woodland.

Norm Knows... Western Subterranean Termites Western Subterranean Termites have a winter time activity period, but are year-round pests of wooden structures and dead trees. The winter activity is associated with their swarming habit. The winged adults are black/dark brown with opaque gray wings.

Nutrition Through Art

What does your plate of apples look like? Cinnamon Elementary School held their first annual family night which included UC CalFresh holding Nutrition Through Art. Families had the opportunity to learn about fruit while using pastels to create a work of art like Paul Cezanne.
