Spider glue: it's a sticky subject but there's much more to it than that.

Postdoctoral researcher and spider silk expert Sarah Stellwagen, University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), will speak on "Towards Spider Glue: From Material Properties to Sequencing the Longest Silk Family Gene" at the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology seminar at 4:10 p.m.

Ashraf El-Kereamy named UCCE citrus specialist Ashraf El-Kereamy was appointed UC Cooperative Extension citrus horticultural specialist in the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences at UC Riverside on Feb. 1, 2019. He is based at the UC Lindcove Research and Extension Center in Exeter.

Weather outlook The next 10 days will see consistent warm, dry weather in the San Joaquin Valley. Highs in the upper 70's to high 80's and overnight lows in the mid to low 50's will allow steady thrips development, and we should see numbers starting to build up.

General situation After a dry and warmer weekend, the weather will return to a cooler, unsettled pattern next week, with temperatures in the mid 60's to low 70's and significant chance of further rain showers on several days.

Next week promises to be memorable week for entomologists at the University of California, Davis. Oh, how they wish they could clone themselves so they could be in two places at the same time: in San Diego and on the UC Davis campus.
