Here's a round-up of nutrition news, information, and events from the past month that I found interesting. Note that any particular research finding is only one part of a large and complicated picture of a healthy diet.

Before the beginning of this school year, Calaveras Unified School District Food Services partnered with local nutrition programs to look for ways to support healthy eating among the district's roughly 2,800 students.

In late summer, melons have had time to ripen and are abundant at local farmers markets and grocery stores. Sweet melons make a healthy summer dessert and are a good source of hydration during hot weather, due to their high water and electrolyte content.

The UC Master Gardener Program is pleased to announce the winners of the 40th Anniversary UC Master Gardener Photo Contest. Thank you for helping tell our story by submitting over 480 photos and to all the people who voted.

Hi Fodder Folks! "Precision Agriculture" is a term you've probably heard. You may think of farm mechanization, remote sensing, computers, and maybe even drones when you hear it, and you'd be correct in all of those associations.

When we launched the newest Site Builder designs earlier in 2019, we made available the UC Seal as a logo for a site. In fact, we went so far as to make the UC Seal the default logo for new sites. According to the UC brand guidelines, this was a mistake on our part.

If you have interacted with the UC ANR homepage recently, you'll have noticed it has undergone a major renovation.

Jennifer Goerlitz, 4-H youth development program representative for Calaveras County, passed away Dec. 17, 2018. She was 54. Goerlitz was the 4-H program coordinator for Calaveras County for 30 years, first with Calaveras County. She transitioned to UC Cooperative Extension in 2012.

Chico State Hosts "Wildcats Vote" Campaign Forum (Action News Now 12/24) Cecile Juliette, Oct. 15 Ryan Cleland, 4-H Community Education Specialist, said voting is the best way to make a point. "You don't have to engage in the conversations at Thanksgiving or the arguments on TV," Cleland said.
