A Violet is a Violet #2

Miniatures and Semi-Miniatures

One of my very favorite semi-miniature violets is Jolly Pepper, pictured here.  Semi-miniature and miniature violets are much smaller than the standard size violets. While standards can measure up to 20 inches across, semi-miniatures usually are 8 inches or less across, while miniatures are usually 6 inches or less.  Growing semi-miniature and miniature violets are great for those with space issues.  They certainly take up much less room than the standards.  They have all the beauty of the large standards but are much more compact growers. Which means…I can have more of them!!

This miniature violet was given to me by Jennifer Baumbach. It is a bit large for a miniature and truly loves to bloom!  She is a NOID, which in AV language means No Identification. Basically, it's a violet that does not have a name…or the name has been lost somewhere down the line. Once a violet has ‘lost' its name it is virtually impossible to identify it accurately. So it will forever remain a NOID. But, that does not make it any less beautiful! (Note from Jennifer-I call it 'Karen's Violet' unofficial name of the Master Gardener who gave it to me.)
