Salad Bouquet

One day it's freezing cold, another it's windy, today is cold, windy and raining; maybe tomorrow it will be sunny and warmer. The California winter, it's predictably unpredictable, from day to day. That's just my point of view.

But one thing predictable so far is the explosion of winter greens, especially the perennial winter greens. I never think to eat salads when it's cold. I'd rather have a hot, tongue burning soup.

But today, I will have salad from the garden. A bouquet of salad made up of leaves of purple tree collards,Pentland Brig Kale, French sorrel, Swiss chard, garlic chives, fennel, pea sprouts, and  sweet cherry tomatoes - last vestiges of a plant that has succumbed to the winter frost.

I'm also going to add the frozen pomegranate (Punica granatum) from this winter's harvest. That will be a beautiful, delicious and nutritious salad.

And maybe tomorrow will be warmer so I can play in the garden…
