Ranunculus is in a large genus of 1700 or more plants. It is distributed throughout Europe, North and South America. They are mostly perennial but can also be annuals or biennials. Members of the genus are known as buttercups, spearworts and water crowfoots. The petals on the buttercups are often very lustrous, and very smooth giving off a mirror like shine or reflex ion. The corms can be planted in the fall for springtime blooming which last about 6-8 weeks. They come in a variety of colors including soft and hot pink, orange, yellow, white, and burgundy. They are extremely popular at weddings for their lush soft layered petals. I have done several weddings with them, and I absolutely work with the colorful varieties. I have used several of the butterfly variety, and they last up to 3 weeks or more! If you are ever able to get these beauties, you will not be sorry! Literally, out of this world! Of course, I am a crazy flower geek!
