My favorite style of gardens have to be cottage gardens. I see them as very colorful, various heights and an almost flowy or airy feel to them. In 2020, while we were under covid lock down, I was not able to get over to Annie's Annuals to get my usual springtime plants. Because of that I decided I would try there mail order, which I will say was top notch! They have the packaging down to a science. I not only got a few of my favorite poppies, snapdragons, agrostemma, and lupines. I also got my first Nigella damascene ‘Miss Jekyll' dark blue. The variety I got is considered the darkest of the well known ‘Love in a Mist'. It comes from the Ranunculales family and is genus to 18 species. It is native to S. Europe, N. Africa, S. Asia, S.E. Asia, and the Middle East. It's culinary uses are known as black cumin, black caraway and black coriander which are used as spices in South Asian cuisine. They reseed freely in the garden and look very nice in dried floral arrangements. I absolutely love how good this pairs with the other plants in my garden. To this day I have it in my new garden as it reseeded with some of the staple plants I brought to my new house. It's a lovely addition to every gardener if you haven't tried it, you will sure to be happy!
