Cootamundra Wattle

I recently moved to a new house that has a few Acacia baileyana trees on the land. It is also called Cootamundra Wattle, and is named for a small town in Cootamundra, New South Wales Australia where it is native to. It is in the Fabaceae family. It can be grown as a shrub or tree which grows 20-30' high to 20-40' wide. It is a fast-growing tree with feathery, finely cut blue grey leaves, which is evergreen. In early spring to late winter, it puts on amazing display of bright yellow flowers. It favors scrub and chaparral environments. It has long lived seeds that accumulate in the soil and germinate after fires, hot weather, or other disturbances. The Acacia baileyana is on the California Invasive Plant Species List. In my case I can either cut them down or enjoy that fabulous display!
