Weed Day 2016 comes to UC Davis July 7

You can read about the latest weed-science research being conducted at UC Davis, but nothing beats seeing it for yourself. That's why pest control advisors, chemical company cooperators, faculty, students and regulatory officials continue to gather at UC Davis each July for Weed Day, an annual tour of the vast array of weed-control field trials underway.

This year's 60^th Annual Weed Day will be held Thursday, July 7, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. As always, it will begin with a bus tour of various weed-science research plots and in the afternoon, after a nice lunch, staff and students will present information on projects that are either not in-season or located too far off-campus for viewing.

“We have a variety of interesting projects to present,” says Cooperative Extension Specialist and Weed Expert Kassim Al-Khatib, chairman of this year's event. “We have tomatoes, walnuts, and almonds as well as aquatic research results, and a weed identification quiz. We'll be hearing about control of medusahead, management in grapes, a new herbicide for rice, and many studies on herbicide resistance issues.”

And that's just a sampling of the topics in store. The cost is $95 for registration received before or on June 15, $120 for registration received after June 15, and $135 for walk-in registration.
