In June 2016 the Madsen team revisited the site of our 2015 surfactant study to establish a more extensive test of aquatic herbicides for controlling waterhyacinth in the Delta.

This is the time of year when small islands of waterhyacinth break loose from their parent mats, seeking new marinas to clog up. The Madsen team is embedding radio dog collars into freefloating mats to track their movements with the currents, tides, and wind.

The City of San Diego, Park and Recreation Department is requesting applications for Pesticide Applicators. Two new positions are being added. One position will be working in natural habitat and open space areas and the other position in community park areas.

There has been more than the usual number of questions about what I am calling "bio-based" herbicides recently. Arguably, this is coming from news that some school districts and cities specifically calling out the use of glyphosate on the properties they manage.
