2025 6th Report-- May 29th

General outlook & thrips population

Thrips population predictions are similar to last week’s update. Generation three is maturing, and adults are predicted to peak 6/8.

For most crops the 3rd and 4th generations will present the highest risk of TSWV spreading and causing yield loss.  Focusing thrips treatments into the next 4-6 week window will help keep TSWV damage to a minimum.

New thrips population prediction app available

The degree day model we use to predict thrips populations now has a new interface. It is now much easier to use; all you have to do is drop a pin anywhere on the map (you can turn on satellite view if you want to find a specific field) and the app will generate thrips phenology based on degree days at that location.

Local monitoring

We continue to see very high numbers of thrips this year. More TSWV infections are starting to pop up, however still at fairly low levels (<1-2%.

As always, feel free to contact me if you have a suspected infection you would like confirmed (Patricia; 530-219-5198)
