General background We are a little slow getting off the mark with our updates this year. Also, the UC ANR web platform was changed in the last couple of weeks and we're having some issues migrating the old website over to the new platform. In the meantime there won't be visuals online to go along with the blogs, but feel free to contact us to request a graph showing the projected development curve for thrips for your region.
Thrips development The first post winter generation adults peaked around the end of March. Peak egg hatch for generation is probably happening right about now, with generation 2 adults peaking by the start of the last week of April. Generation 3 will be developing through May with adults peaking by the end of the 3rd of May. We have had a report of TSWV in Fresno county already, but unless there is evidence of TSWV attacking crops in your neighborhood this early, it is unlikely that treatment for thrips will be useful at this time and targeting generation 3 or even generation 4 will be more effective.
Model output: We are building a new UC ANR website to host the output from the thrips development model. In the meantime, we've made a simple version hosted on a third party web service, Neocities. If you want to see the model output for your region follow the link below.
