If you haven't grown fall vegetables, you may wonder, "What vegetables grow in fall?" The answer is, “Plenty!” There is asparagus, artichoke, broccoli, bok choy, Brussels sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, cabbage, mustard greens, lettuce, spinach, and Swiss chard, just to name a few. These plants thrive during cool weather, along with edible flowers like nasturtiums and Johnny Jump-Ups.
Our UC Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners are offering in-person classes at many local library branches (see this blog for the list), https://ucanr.edu/blogs/blogcore/postdetail.cfm?postnum=53799. We are also offering more opportunities to take the Fall Vegetable Gardening class at two other locations.
Turlock Community Gardens
If you have not visited Turlock Community Gardens, https://www.turlockcommunitygardens.org/ you will be amazed. This garden was a vacant lot just a few years ago and now it is a thriving community garden with numerous beds where locals grow their own vegetables. It's also a location where we teach classes every third Saturday of the month from 9:00-10:30 a.m. (except for November, when the class will be offered on Aug. 12 by a Community Garden member.
This month class is on Saturday, August 20, 2022. No need to register, just show up. There will be free carrot and radish seed packets for attendees!
